Fire Officer III Class Held at AAFD HQ

On November 10, 11 and 12, the AAFD played host to the second half of a Fire Officer III class and National Certification Examination. The 40-hour class, sponsored by the Harmony Fire District and delivered by Bucks County Community College, covered the job performance requirements of the NFPA Standard 1021, Standard for Fire Officer - Professional Qualifications. The intense course focused on administrative level fire officer responsibilities such as hiring, promotions, injury prevention, record-keeping, budget administration, fire department future planning, as well as incident management techniques. Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Darryl Jones was the lead instructor. The course was attended by more than 20 firefighters and fire officers from the surrounding areas, including, Adams Area & Harmony Fire Districts locally; Allegheny, Washington & Westmoreland Counties; the PA ANG 171st Fire Emergency Services; the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire; and from as far away as Altoona and West Virginia. The AAFD Fire Headquarters was on full display, and all appreciated the state-of-the-art classroom and facilities.
