| This morning at 0154 hours the Adams Area Fire District was dispatched for a single vehicle MVC into a tree with possible entrapment. D/C 42 (Mellinger) went enroute at 0157 hours. While enroute, Adams Twp PD arrived on-scene, updating units with confirmed entrapment and the vehicle was in a ditch, smoking. D/C 42 arrived at 0200, finding a Lincoln Navigator over the embankment in a drainage ditch with a tree uprooted and on top of it, heavy front end damage and the passenger side torn off into the front passenger seat. Rescue 42 arrived, pulling the CAFS line and beginning extrication efforts, cutting away parts of the tree to get access for door removal and patient extrication. Engine 19 arrived, assigned to hose line for safety and manpower in the extrication efforts. The patient was extricated and handed off to Quality EMS Medic 76-3 and ATPD within 10 minutes, even with the extended extrication impediments and extensive vehicle damage and passenger compartment impingement. Crews remained on scene to cut the rest of the tree away for vehicle recovery and towing by Classic Automotive, and cleanup of the roadway. Units operated on scene for about two hours, opening the roadway at about 0400 hours. |
