Throwback Time: Charter Anniversary, Mars VFC

This coming week, May 26th will mark the 90th anniversary of the charter being granted to one of our parent companies, the Mars VFC.

Organized fire protection in the Mars area dates to February 1905, when the Borough Council purchased a hand-drawn chemical apparatus and sponsored an initial group as a fire brigade. In 1923, the first motorized fire engine was purchased.

After several serious fires, the Council directed a reorganization. In the early months of 1934, several meetings yielded additional volunteers and a slate of officers. The formal charter for the Mars Volunteer Fire Company was granted by the Butler County Court of Common Pleas on May 26, 1934. This organization existed until 2007, when it merged with Valencia VFC, forming the Adams Area Fire District.
