Along - of course - Brickyard Road in Adams Township, is an industrial property that has experienced its share of fire incidents. Today it is the Vogel property, but before that it had been a brick works for decades. A siding from the former B&O Railroad, as well as a siding from the Pittsburgh to Butler shortline allowed for the easy transfer of bricks and other goods. This fire was in December 1940. An explosion in a kiln in the early 1900s was devastating. And a fire in the 1980s, when a portion of the complex was occupied by Lord Industries, was severe. As you can read, the former Mars and Valencia VFCs fought this fire together, as they did for over 50 years, before consolidation as the Adams Area Fire District. |
