Memorial Day, 2026

The day set aside to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our nation. In our combined histories dating back almost 100 years, two men have been killed in action in service of the United States, and the AAFD pauses to remember.

++John D. Hutchman, Word War II. US Navy Reserve Petty Officer First Class Hutchman was KIA on June 26, 1944 in the South Pacific. As a member of the former Mars VFC, he was posthumously granted Life Member status shortly after his death.

++ Harold Eugene Morrow, Vietnam War. Third Marine Division Gunnery Sergeant Morrow was KIA July 21, 1967 in South Vietnam. GYSGT Morrow was a member of the former Valencia VFC at the time of his death. Because of differing fire company practices, or perhaps oversight, it was only discovered in recent years he had not been honored posthumously as a Life Member. It was awarded several years ago by the AAFD.
