Throwback Time: In 1978, Valencia VFC received some negative attention over the issue of females being rejected when they applied to join the active firefighting organization

In the past, females were relegated to the "Women's Auxiliary" in a support role.
This was by no means limited to VVFC. It was a topic most volunteer firefighting organizations -- including Mars VFC -- wrestled with. It seems so insignificant today, when females are active in most organizations, but it was a seismic change back in the 1970s.
In this instance, at VVFC, it happened to be many of the wives of active male members. As well as already being active Auxiliary members. It no doubt made for some "uncomfortable" moments around the home.
