It operated less formally until a charter was sought in 1931. The charter, granted by the Court of Common Pleas of Butler County, was granted on November 21, 1931.
The Borough of Valencia is situated in southernmost Butler County. It's location, surrounded by Adams Twp (Butler Co) and Richland Twp (Allegheny Co), and very close to Pine Twp (Allegheny Co), has resulted in a community living between two worlds at times. A few years after being chartered, a building was acquired to serve as the fire hall. For close to 20 years, it was thought the fire hall was in Valencia Borough.
However, the Butler / Allegheny county line had never been formally surveyed. When it was, it was determined the fire hall was actually in Richland Twp, Allegheny County. This didn't really affect the delivery of service by Valencia volunteers, although in later years others quibbled over first due areas and tax support. These were worked through over time, and seamless response to these areas and beyond continues today by the merged AAFD organization. |
