The Members of the AAFD took part in two separate flag displays to remember the victims from the September 11th Terrorist attacks of 2001.

Tower 42 Proudly Displayed the flag on Friday night at the Mars High School Football game.

The Tower also displayed the flag out front of the AAFD HQ on 9/11 beginning at exactly 8:46 AM. 20 years ago at that time, the attacks had just begun. The Flag was displayed until 10:28 AM when the significant events of the attacks, had ended. As each event unfolded members took part in a moment of silence to remember the victims who perished.

The North tower of the World Trade Center was struck by American Airlines Flight 11 at 8:46. From there a series of events would unfold that would change this country forever. Shortly after the North Tower was struck, at 9:03 AM, the South Tower was hit by United Airlines Flight 175. Then at 9:37 AM the Pentagon in Washington DC was hit by American Airlines Flight 77. At 9:59AM the South Tower had collapsed. United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a remote field in Shanksville Pennsylvania At 10:03 AM. Thanks to the brave passengers of United 93, the Plane was taken down into that remote field, rather than the intended target, which is believed to have been the U.S. Capitol Building. Finally, the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed at 10:28AM.

2,977 Innocent Civilians, those aboard the hijacked planes and those in the buildings struck were killed in the attacks. Thanks to the Many Heroes of the New York City Fire Department and Police Department, along with several men and women from Washington DC emergency services, many people made it to safety. However, when the Twin Towers fell, many lives of the New York City Emergency Services crews were taken. The FDNY lost 343 Firefighters, and 8 Paramedics. NYPD lost 60 Officers. Many of those Brave Men and Women were inside of the buildings when they collapsed. Others were outside and crushed by the rubble and dust clouds that took over the streets of Manhattan.

The members were out and about today on several calls. while returning from an incident in the Adams Ridge plan, we passed a lemonade stand. several young boys and girls were giving away free lemonade, and taking donations for our military, and the 9/11 foundation.

The members of the AAFD will never forget this terrible event which changed America forever.
